Dean Kemp Program
The Dean Kemp Football and Leadership Development Program (DKFL) is a family-run organisation in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission, run and owned by Dean Kemp - a high profile former AFL player for the West Coast Eagles Football Club – and his wife Karin.
The key purpose of the DKFL is to maximise the individual potential and well-being of young West Australians (boys and girls aged 8 to 16 years) through participation in an educational and skills based football development and leadership program.
The DKFL aims to provide children in regional Western Australia (as well as metropolitan areas) with a solid grounding in basic football and other life skills. The DKFL is a program which includes elements of:
- Coaching of basic football skills (kicking, handballing, positioning)
- Mentoring by teaching life skills and providing advice
- Self confidence and self belief
- Leadership
- Healthy life choices including nutrition, dietary needs and being alcohol and drug aware
- Having fun and participating
- Mateship
- Developing a peer network
Following a successful pilot two-day school holiday program in Bunbury in July 2012, Dean is hoping to expand DKFL programs to all regional areas in WA by 2017.
Dean’s vision is to provide a positive learning experience in which youngsters can improve their football skills and their understanding of the game, gain confidence as an individual, and learn important life skills from a coach and mentor who has been through it himself.
DKFL programs welcome boys and girls of any age between 8 to 16 years of age.
The DKFL aims to put a portion of any surplus funds it achieves back into regional “grass roots” football development and communities.
