The East Perth District is seeking Indigenous players born in 2000, 2001 or 2002 to participate in the Nicky Winmar Cup carnival for 2015.

Any other youth age coach in the District is also welcome to join the team as an assistant coach.

The squad will train together for about 4 weeks prior to the carnival at Altone Park in Beechboro. The team will represent East Perth and will play against teams from other WAFL clubs and country regions at the one-day carnival in March.

THE RECRUIT is a reality football entertainment series that follows 12 ‘Recruits’ who live and play together as a team, while at the same time competing against each other, in order to win this life-changing prize. The highly anticipated reality format, produced in conjunction with the AFL, was only made possible after an historic change to the AFL legislation.

Year 3 Auskick Gala Day

Thursday, May 22, 2014 - 3:23 PM

The first Year 3 NAB Auskick Gala Day of the season is on this Sunday 25th May at Lightning Park Noranda.

Twenty teams from all 9 junior clubs will take to the field for a fun filled morning of Auskick grid games.  The first games get underway at 9.30am and the day wraps up at around 12 noon after round 5.

"Having 20 teams from all 9 of our junior clubs is a fantastic result," said East Perth District Development Assistant, Corey Ranger.  "Gala days provide Auskickers with the chance to play against teams from other junior clubs, which is something they don't normally do at their club centres.  It breaks the monotony of playing against the same opposition every week and the carnival atmosphere gives the kids a real buzz."

East Perth players will make a special appearance during the day to umpire games and provide advice and encouragement to the kids.

Interchange iPad App

Thursday, May 22, 2014 - 2:43 PM

The Interchange iPad app provides junior coaches with a simple way to manage team rotations off the bench to ensure compliance with competition rules.

Automatic sorting of your team list and a single tap to interchange your players makes Interchange a breeze to use.  Interchange allows coaches to easily track game time and % of time played by all players.  The improved Interchange version also incorporates a warning system for players who are in danger of playing less than the minimum time, while allowing for injuries and yellow or red card infringements.

Teams playing in the East Perth District are able to use the Interchange app in place of the handwritten interchange sheet.  An easy email function allows the user to send the report for each game to any email address.

The Interchange app can be purchased from the iTunes app store for $3.79.

Nominations Now Open for Volunteer of the Year Award

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - 1:04 PM

Nominations are now open for The Sunday Times WA Football Volunteer of the Year Award.

The overall winner of the award will be announced at the 2014 Sandover Medal count and receive a trip for two to the 2014 AFL Grand Final, including flights, accommodation and tickets to the Grand Final breakfast function.

To nominate a volunteer visit: http://www.wafooty.com.au/form/volunteeroftheyear

Last year, East Perth District volunteer Luke McNiece won for the award after being nominated by the Coolbinia Bombers Junior Football Club.

WA Football Commission Club Development and Coaching Manager Glenn Morley congratulated Mr McNiece on winning the award and encouraged more people to nominate a volunteer in 2014.

“There was a record 2,114 nominations from around WA last year and we are aiming to top that this year,” he said.

“There are so many aspects of our game that just wouldn’t happen without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and it’s really important that they are recognised.

“Volunteers are involved at all levels whether it’s in the canteen, umpiring, coaching or driving their kids to the game. Just like there are star players and star coaches, we want to recognise star volunteers and it is thanks to The Sunday Times that we can do this,” Mr Morley said.
