McGinnity Joins Royals

Friday, October 28, 2016 - 1:11 PM

Patrick McGinnity will remain a Royal in 2017 and beyond, signing a 3-year contract with East Perth.

The former West Coast listed player has become a fan favourite over his past 3 years at East Perth. Many Loyal Royals will remember Patricks dad, Kevin who played 59 games for the Royals throughout the 70’s.

Originating from the Marist Football Club, Patrick was picked by West Coast in the 2008 Pre-Season Draft after being selected in the 2007 Under 18 All Australian Team.

‘Ginna’ made his debut for the Eagles in 2009 and played 93 games for the club. Pat gained respect from opponents, fans and team mates for his tenacity on a contest and work ethic to get the best out of himself.

McGinnity played 15 games for the Royals this year winning the inaugural Jeremy Silcock Trademark Award along with rising Royal Tom Hodgson. This award is voted on by the players for which player best displays the team values and ethics for that week. It is this level of commitment to the club and his team mates that made getting Pat’s signature a priority.

‘I am extremely pleased to announce that Pat has agreed to join the football club on a 3-year contract’ Football Operations Manager Mark Winnett said. “Pat is a high-quality person and footballer and someone who displays outstanding leadership and we were obviously very keen to keep around the club. The way he has been embraced the playing group, coaches and supporters is a credit to him and clear indication that he is a perfect fit for our young, talented squad”

McGinnity’s signing follows on from last Friday’s signing of Steven Payne. These two senior players join FD Book Medallist Mitch Fraser and Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls as key players committed to the Royals in 2017.
