Round 21 Post-Match Q&A: Willie Rioli

Monday, August 14, 2017 - 3:00 PM by Jasmine Cookson

Willie Rioli was the star in last weekened’s win against the Swans. He not only managed to put on four goals, but he also treated fans to an exceptional display Rioli magic that we all love to watch. We had a quick chat to the man who added a touch of class to the Royals win on Saturday.

You guys had a really good game today, a really good team effort, what was the mindset going into this week?

Just to play our way and to play the way we know we can play well and win. That was our main focus and we did it today.

You’re a great one-touch player, is that a conscious role you play on your part?

I’m one of the players that doesn’t get much of the ball but when I do get the ball I’m pretty dangerous. That’s just the way I grew up playing footy and I’m pretty reliable around goals and I’m lucky that I kicked a few today.

How do you work with the other boys like Shayne Hille and Julian Ameduri? You look like you fit in well?

Yeah we all play the same sport so we all get around each other and they direct me. I wouldn’t have got those goals if they didn’t put me in the right spot. But I’m happy to be back playing senior footy and going into the finals.

How do you go into the next couple of weeks keeping your form up?

Just doing everything I can to finish off these last few games and hopefully finals. I didn’t have a good run this year with my hamstring so just each week, taking it as it comes and making sure my hamstring is good to go by the weekend.

You guys seem to have an emphasis on playing four quarters of good football, how do you guys make sure you carry that on for the next couple of weeks?

Yeah just to stick to your game plan and it’ll work.
