Round 5 Colts Wrap

CLAREMONT, East Fremantle and Perth all recorded victories during the Super Colts Round at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday before East Perth won a thriller over Peel Thunder on Sunday.

Three of the four Round 5 WAFL Colts matches took place at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday throughout the day before it concluded on Sunday afternoon at Leederville Oval.

The Saturday action at the port began on Saturday morning with Claremont beating South Fremantle 11.6 (72) to 5.7 (37) for its second win of the season.

East Fremantle then also won its second match of 2018 defeating Swan Districts 14.8 (92) to 11.2 (68).

The day's action ended with the afternoon clash seeing Perth overcome West Perth 11.15 (81) to 10.9 (69).

Then on Sunday afternoon at Leederville Oval, East Perth won its first game of 2018 in a thriller over Peel Thunder 11.13 (79) to 12.6 (78).

Subiaco remains unbeaten on top of the WAFL Colts ladder at 4-0 despite the bye in Round 5 to be ahead of Perth (4-1), Swan Districts (3-2), Claremont (2-2) and East Fremantle (2-3).

West Perth (2-3) is just outside the top five ahead of Peel Thunder (1-3), South Fremantle (1-3) and East Perth (1-3).

CLAREMONT v SOUTH FREMANTLE

The big day of colts action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday began with Claremont taking on South Fremantle, with the Tigers going on to beat the Bulldogs by 35 points.

It was an even start to the contest with South Fremantle leading by a point at quarter-time before Claremont had taken a four-point advantage into half-time.

The Tigers kicked away in the third term booting three goals to three behinds to open a 21-point lead at three quarter-time before going on to win 11.6 (72) to 5.7 (37).

Tyron Smallwood, Jack Monaghan and Lachlan Southern all kicked two goals each for Claremont with Smallwood also having 25 possessions, six tackles and five marks, and Monaghan 24 disposals, nine inside-50 entries and six marks.

Rylie Morgan also finished with 22 possessions and 12 tackles for the Tigers with Thomas Baldwin picking up 20 disposals, Oliver Henderson 20, Jordan Clark 17, Corey Hitchcock 17 and Max Grant 16.

Angus Longmire had 33 hit outs in the ruck.

Tom Weston kicked four goals for South Fremantle from nine kicks, six marks and four inside-50 entries.

Kyle Hamersley compiled 24 possessions for the Bulldogs, Regan Spooner 24, Matthew Ward 24, Tom Blechynden 24, Enrique Aiken-Featherstone 19, Toby McQuilkin 17 and James Russell 17 to go with nine tackles.

Ben Pears also had 12 touches, four tackles and 30 hit outs in the ruck.

SWAN DISTRICTS v EAST FREMANTLE

The middle match of the day of colts action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval saw East Fremantle beat Swan Districts by 24 points.

East Fremantle made a fast start kicking four goals to one in the first quarter before still leading by 18 points at half-time, 26 points at three quarter-time and then going on to claim the 14.8 (92) to 11.2 (68) victory.

Dillon O'Reilly kicked four goals for East Fremantle with Aaron Meadowcroft, Dane Jenzen and Cody Smith all kicking two goals each as well.

Milan Murdock had a terrific game for the Sharks finishing with 24 possessions and 10 tackles while Josh Ritchie gathered 24 disposals, Jeremy Sharp 18, Corey Robinson 16, Zac Wilkinson 16 and Trent Rivers 16 to go with nine marks.

Kade Walldrot kicked three goals for Swan Districts from 10 kicks and five entries inside the forward 50.

Patrick Farrant and Jackson Beck both kicked two goals as well for Swans.

Riley Garcia amassed 23 possessions for Swan Districts, Mitchell Bain 20, Brenton Hilton 20, Graydon Wilson 16 and Jarred Cameron 15.

PERTH v WEST PERTH

The last game of the big day of colts action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday took place in the afternoon with Perth beating West Perth by 12 points on the back of a strong third quarter.

Warm conditions greeted the two teams for the 3pm bouncedown at the port and the Demons started strongly against the Falcons with four goals to two in the opening quarter.

West Perth hit back with some scintillating football in the second term piling on seven goals to one to head into half-time leading Perth by 22 points.

But the Demons turned things around after half-time with five goals to two behinds in the third term to open a nine-point three quarter-time lead before going on to win 11.15 (81) to 10.9 (69).

There were plenty of standout performers for Perth with Luke English again outstanding with 30 possessions, seven inside 50s, five tackles and two goals. Ian Hill also had 21 touches and three goals with Sydney Stack delivering 27 possessions, six tackles, six inside 50s and two goals.

Bailey Smith also kicked two goals for the Demons while Maverick Hamilton picked up 17 possessions, Elijah Taylor 15 and Simon Hayward 15 to go with nine tackles.

Nathan Murray had a big performance for West Perth finishing with three goals to go with 27 possessions and nine tackles.

Jack Burke, Eamon Gilbert and Jamie Dowen also kicked two goals each for the Falcons.

Alec Johnson gathered 23 possessions, Bailey Chalmers 20 and Filimone Muavou 18.

EAST PERTH v PEEL THUNDER

With the earlier start to the league game at Leederville Oval on Sunday, the main event time slot went to the colts battle and it didn't disappoint with East Perth beating Peel Thunder by a solitary point.

The game took place Sunday afternoon at Leederville oval with East Perth starting strongly with 11 scoring shots to four in the first quarter and to open up a 17-point advantage by quarter-time.

But Peel turned things around in the second quarter with six goals to two to take a nine-point lead into half-time.

The Royals had the advantage of the scoring end in the third quarter and kicked four goals to two to lead by seven points at the last break setting the stage for a terrific last term where Peel ended up a point short of running over the top of East Perth.

Jarrod Hamer-Mathew kicked two goals from 16 kicks for East Perth with Harley Sparks also booting two majors.

Louis Miller racked up 25 possessions for the Royals, Damon Greaves 24, Tom Baulch 20 (10 marks, six inside 50s) and Yugusuk Soka 15 (seven inside-50 entries).

Brad Oldfield kicked three goals from 18 possessions and five tackles for Peel with Jack Sears also kicking three majors from six kicks and five marks.

Andrew Butler compiled 21 possessions for the Thunder, James Sturrock 20, Lachlan Riley 19 and Jarvis Pina 18.
