WA’s Mundella AFL Women’s State 18s overcame a strong Queensland outfit in their opening clash of the championships at Subiaco Oval on Saturday, June 2.=

Trailing close behind Queensland for the majority of the match, WA put their best foot forward in the final term to take out a 4.6 (30) to 3.9 (27) victory.

Mikayla Hyde booted two goals for WA, while Sabreena Duffy and Kate Bartlett added singles.

WA’s Mundella State 18s side proved too strong for Queensland in their second match of the championships with a convincing 25-point win at Steel Blue Oval on Monday, June 4.

WA’s State 18s had a tough start to their NAB AFL National 18s Championship campaign, suffering an 89-point loss to South Australia in Adelaide on Sunday, June 3.

South Australia’s strong attack on the football and efficiency in front of goal saw them win the game 19.10 (124) to 5.5 (35) spearheaded by four goals each from Jack Lukosius and Hugo Munn.

Luke Moore kicked two goals for WA and Jordan Clark, Luke English and Ian Hill added a goal each.

English led WA’s disposals with 25 possessions followed by Damon Greaves 23, James Sturrock 18, Regan Spooner 17 and Rylie Morgan and Luke Jackson with 15 each.

SA won the inside 50 count 56 to 33 over the course of the game and made the most of their chances in front of goal, while WA struggled to find time and space around the ground.
