GEORGE Hampson has been the barometer at East Fremantle since arriving from Subiaco in 2015 and on Saturday he just wasn’t going to let the Sharks' losing run continue as he put in a performance that made him a lock to be the M & J Chickens Player of Round 8.

There were plenty of other standout performers too in some difficult conditions in Round 8 of the WAFL.

Subiaco made it seven straight wins with Chris Phelan and captain Kyal Horsley outstanding.

Around the Grounds Round 8

Round 8 of the WAFL kicks off this Saturday at Leederville Oval where East Perth take on Swan Districts in what's expected to be a very close contest. In Fremantle we see East Fremantle clash with Peel Thunder, while their Port rivals South Fremantle host Claremont. North of the river we see Perth and Subiaco battle it out at Lathlain Park. 

There will be heaps happening around the grounds including fun zones, pop-up food and beverage outlets, competitions for the whole family and don't forget to cheer on the Movie Masters Little Leaguers who play at half-time at all matches.

TABtouch Team of Round 7

BIG Round 7 WAFL wins for Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth saw plenty of players in fine form for the top three teams while Perth's one-point win against Claremont saw a host of others put up their hands for the TABtouch Team of the Round.

All four WAFL Round 7 fixtures took place on Saturday afternoon and it saw the top three teams, Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth, make quite the statement.

Subiaco made it six straight wins to start the season beating Peel Thunder 21.14 (140) to 7.6 (48) in a Grand Final rematch at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

Round 7 WAFL Results

WAFL action resumed on Saturday following the State Game triumph and it saw the top three teams Subiaco, South Fremantle and West Perth record wins by a combined 248 points while Perth won a heartstopper over Claremont by a point.

The competition took a break last weekend as the KIA WAFL State Team went to Adelaide to defeat South Australia by 26 points as the West Australian representative side made it six consecutive victories.

The WAFL competition resumed for Round 7 action on Saturday afternoon with all four games taking place as Swan Districts had an extra week off with the bye.

State Academy set for trial games

The WA State Academy will play a series of trial games over the next fortnight, kicking off this weekend at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean and continuing next Friday night at Subiaco Oval.

The trial games are an important part of the State Academy's preparation and selection process ahead of the AFL National Championships in June and July.

The first intake of players for the 2018 WA State Academy was completed at the end of April.

Shortly after this game gets underway Claremont and Perth battle it out at Claremont Oval, East Perth take on South Fremantle at Leederville Oval and West Perth and East Fremantle go head-to-head at Joondalup Arena.

State Game Match Report – WAFL v SANFL

SCINTILLATING second and fourth quarters have led the KIA WAFL State Team to an inspired and drought-breaking 26-point victory over South Australia in the 2018 State Game on Saturday at Adelaide Oval.
 
Western Australia went into the contest on Saturday at Adelaide Oval having won the past five State matches but winning in Adelaide against the Croweaters hadn’t happened since a State of Origin victory for the Sandgropers in 1994.
 
WA then started slowly on Saturday going goalless in the opening quarter. But that soon changed with a scorching eight-goal performance in the second term to head into half-time with a four-goal advantage. Read More [+]

TABtouch Team of Round 6

ROUND 6 of the 2018 WAFL season saw victories for South Fremantle, Subiaco, Peel Thunder and East Perth while a host of players put their hands up to be part of the State match this Saturday against South Australia as well.

Three of the four Round 6 matches took place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco pushed for the first time in 2018, but ending up beating West Perth 13.10 (88) to 10.6 (66) at Leederville Oval.

South Fremantle made it four straight wins beating Swan Districts 16.11 (107) to 14.10 (94) at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and Peel Thunder returned to the winner's list defeating Claremont 14.14 (98) to 11.12 (78) at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

Round 6 Match Report – East Fremantle v East Perth

EAST Perth continued its imposing form since its big loss to Subiaco to open the season cruising to a 33-point win against East Fremantle on Sunday that only wasn’t by significantly more due to their inaccuracy.
