Royals claim victory in clash with Perth

Monday, June 9, 2014 - 6:28 PM

EAST Perth join Swan Districts, thanks to a handy percentage boost, on top of the WAFL ladder, following an 80-point, 22.8 (140) to 9.6 (60), victory over Perth at Lathlain on Saturday.

The Royals led by 15-points at quarter time, before it was game over for the Demons as East Perth piled on 10 goals to one to lead by 64 points at the main break. They kicked another eight goals to four in the second half, sealing the Club’s equal biggest win of the year.

Wingman, Freddie Clutterbuck who continued his good form, kicking two goals and gathering 28 touches for the Royals, spoke of the importance of the Club building upon momentum. East Perth hold a 8-2 record after 11 Rounds.

“We’re getting a lot more consistent, I think we were a bit up and down at the start of the year, but as we gelled together with the West Coast blokes, obviously the East Perth blokes adjusting to a new game style, it’s all sort of coming together”, he said.

Royals advance to Foxtel Cup Semi Finals

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 - 9:21 AM

EAST Perth have advanced to the Foxtel Cup semi final against Williamstown following a huge 50-point, 9.11 (65) to 2.3 (15), victory over Norwood at Patersons Stadium last night.

The Royals kicked the first seven goals of the game and victory was never in doubt.

When Scott Lycett snapped to open the scoreboard for the homeside, followed by captain Brendan Lee, the Royals led by 15 points at quarter time.

Will Maginness, Simon Tunbridge, Dylan Main and Josh Smith added a goal apiece for the second term as East Perth gained control of the contest leaving Norwood with just two behinds at the main break.

Brant Colledge kicked our first of the third term to stretch the margin to 46 points, before the Redlegs hit the scoreboard with a goal soon after.

Jarrad Oakley Nicholls added another in the final term to stretch the lead to 56-points, followed by a final soccered goal to the Redlegs.

While it was a convincing 50-point win for East Perth, it wasn’t a night without drama.

The game then ended on a sour note with a sickening collision in East Perth's forward-line between West Coast pair Scott Lycett and Brant Colledge.

Colledge left the field on the stretcher with concussion but was later cleared of injury.

Freddie Clutterbuck gathered 20 possessions, Steven Payne (19), Colledge (18), Brendan Lee (16), Simon Tunbridge (16), Karpany (13) and Ashley Smith (12).

Josh Smith finished with a goal and in his return from an ankle injury, playing his first game since Round 4.

The rucking combination of Paul Johnson and Lycett dominated. Johnson had 22 hit outs and Lycett 17.

East Perth will play VFL club Williamstown on July 1 at Patersons Stadium.
