WAFL Qualifying Final Preview: East Perth v Claremont
Author: East Perth FC Admin
Finals have arrived, and now the real challenge begins. After a strong performance in the regular season, finishing 3rd on the ladder, East Perth will once again look to be a major player in the post-season. It is a case of déjà vu this week with the matchup, as for a second week in a row, the Royals will be headed down to Revo Fitness Stadium to take on Claremont. Claremont may have taken the win a week ago, but finals footy means the stakes are higher in this game, and East Perth will be roaring to go and make a big statement to kick off their finals campaign.
Our Reserves side are also in Claremont, taking on Perth in the Elimination Final. They’ll be in action at 11.25am!

Players to Watch
Hamish Brayshaw: Coming back from a week off, Captain Hamish Brayshaw will be fit, firing and ready to go big in this game. Hamish was one of the best on ground when he played Claremont in Round 3, and his leadership and experience around the ball will be needed in this matchup.
Kye Willcocks: Since hitting the 100-game milestone, Kye’s performances have gone up another level, and he comes into the final’s series in great form. Averaging 21 disposals in his last four games, Kye’s run and leadership out of the back will be called this week.
Zac Raykos: Big game players and X-Factors are usually players to look for in finals and Zac Raykos is one of those players. Zac had a huge performance against Claremont last week (29 disposals, eight marks, eight tackles, two goals) and across the season has been able to provide a spark for his team in a variety of roles and positions.
The Opposition
There is not a lot of change to this section this week. Playing Claremont a second week in a row means both sides will feel more comfortable and familiar with each other. A couple of points to note are that Claremont do have a strong home ground, having only lost one game at home all season. The Royals are aware of this and have beaten Claremont at their home ground in their last 4 attempts. It is also worth mentioning the finals history between these two teams. East Perth famously won the 1972 Grand Final against Claremont, showing that this rivalry has been entrenched in these clubs for more than 50 years. In recent history, a finals match played between these teams in 2023 saw Claremont securing a 12-point win over the Royals. With so much on the line this week, both sides will put in a huge effort to secure the win for their team. Going on what we saw last week, we can expect this game to be very physical, highly contested and potentially a high-scoring affair. It should be a great spectacle for all to watch.
