WAFLW Round Two Preview: East Perth v Subiaco

Round Two of the WAFLW Season is approaching. We’re taking on Subiaco in the battle of the home ground, with conditions mercifully cooler than the season opener.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Rogers Cup graduate Elly Sara shone in Round One with 20 disposals, taking home the Best on Ground award in the first game of the season. East Fremantle recruit Hayley O’Donnell also impressed in her first Royals game, racking up 14 disposals and providing leadership in defence.

Last year’s top three WAFLW Fairest & Bests Lucy Greenwood, Sabella Banks, and Layla Firns have all returned strong, collecting 11, 14, and 12 disposals respectively.

Maka Pugliese-Thompson has started in defence this year, a new position for her in the Royals set up.

We had seven debutants in Round One – Brooke Edwards, Hayley O’Donnell, Olivia Earle, Tara Maciupa, Keeley Smith, Brianna Hyde, and Summer Mollross. Keep an eye out for our new players this weekend as they look to build on their Royals experience in cooler conditions.

THE OPPOSITION

Subiaco finished fifth last year with a 6 – 8 record.
The Lions have started this season with a 52 – 22 win against West Perth.
Krstel Petrevski was a standout, collecting 29 disposals and laying nine tackles, continuing the form that saw her take home Subiaco’s Fairest and Best last year.
State Academy player Olivia Wolmarans kicked four goals, so limiting down her scoring opportunities will do plenty to contribute to the Royals’ chances this Sunday.
