Round 18 Football Department Update
Unfortunately Round 17 saw the League side go down to Subiaco by 13pts which makes it a tough 3 losses in a row over the last month and sees us sitting at 6-9 for the season.
It was a wet, muddy affair at Leederville Oval and we did control both the 1st and 3rd quarters comfortably, but did not capitalize on our opportunities and left the door open for Subiaco who held the wind in the final term.
Nicholas Robertson kicked a major early in the 4th quarter to put us ahead, but it was all Subiaco from there and they took home the win.
Scott Jones battled all day and was one of our best while Hamish Brayshaw, Stanley Wight, Angus Scott, Sam Van Diemen & Jacob Msando all played well in the testing conditions. Sandon Page also made his Debut for the club after a good run of form in the Reserves over the last month.
The Reserves made it 2 in a row with a 12pt win over Subiaco’s Reserves which sees them back in the Top 5. Harley Sparks played well through the midfield, Corey Watts was the pick of the defenders and Thomas Graham returned to form with a 3 goal outing.
We now turn our attention to the old enemy in West Perth as we look to regain the Polly Farmer Shield! Due to the condition of Leederville Oval, we have again, had to shift our home game to a natural venue. We do hope that all our supporters can come down and enjoy a day of WAFL footy and support all grades!
THE LEAGUE SQUAD
A few changes to the League side this week, with skipper Jackson Ramsay returning from his 1 week suspension, while young gun, Reuben Ginbey, will come back into the side for the first time since Round 8, missing due to WA State Academy and Wesley College commitments. Key Defender, Corey Watts, will also return to the side after a week in the Reserves, where he found his form and earned a recall, and up and coming forward Thomas Graham, will also return to the League side after a bag of 3 in the Reserves last week.
INS: J.RAMSAY, R.GINBEY, C.WATTS, T.GRAHAM
OUTS: J.HAYDEN, N.BONOMELLI, C.SPARKS, M.SCHOFIELD
THE RESERVES SQUAD
The Reserves will look to keep the finals dream alive, with a win over the top placed West Perth this weekend. Ben McGuire will miss this week with an elbow injury, while Sokaa Soka will return to the Colts side, after a couple of impressive outings with the Reserves. League omissions Jordan Hayden, Nicholas Bonomelli, Cooper Sparks and Mitchell Schofield, will add some real fire power to the side as they look to stake their claim for a League return in the final 2 Rounds of the season.
