Royals suffer loss at the hands of the Lions
IN the battle of the co-tenants on Good Friday the Royals were left to lament two goal-less quarters, succumbing to a 24-point, 16.10 (106) to 12.10 (82), defeat at the hands of the Lions.
Subiaco kicked six unanswered goals in the opening term and led by 44 points early in the second, before East Perth kicked six goals to trail by just 11 points at half time.
The Royals added another six goals to Subiaco’s two in the third term to secure an incredible 59-point turnaround in less than two quarters of football and went into the final change with a 15-point advantage.
But it was all Subiaco from then on as they kept East Perth to just one behind and repeated their first quarter burst, kicking six goals to run out victors.
East Perth have now dropped to fourth on the WAFL ladder, having lost two straight coming off a 100-point loss to West Perth just a week earlier.
Co-captain Craig Wulff led the charge for the Royals with 25 touches and two goals, Sam Butler gathered 27 disposals, Brant Colledge 26, Nathan Blee had 25, Blayne Wilson 24, and Jeremy McGovern 20.
Scott Lycett was a standout with five goals from 15 touches, eight marks and 12 hit outs. While, Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls, Pat McGinnity, Fraser McInnes, Freddie Clutterbuck and Brett Dobson kicked a goal each in the loss.
East Perth were without Josh Smith and Kyle Anderson.
The Royals will face Perth on Saturday at Medibank Stadium.
