New Appointment to the EPFC Board

Friday, November 4, 2022 - 12:19 PM

The East Perth Football Club is pleased to announce that Chris Wharton AM has been appointed to the Board for seasons 2023 and 2024.

Mr Wharton was the only nomination received and therefore fills the position on the Board vacated by retiring Director Alan Quartermaine unopposed.

Chris Wharton is the former Chief Executive Officer of Seven West Media WA, where he supported East Perth FC as a major sponsor through The West Australian and Channel 7 for six seasons.

In 2011, as CEO of the publicly-listed West Australian Newspapers (Holdings), Chris led the multi-billion acquisition of the Seven Media Group, which today is Seven West Media.

His community and business involvement includes board memberships of the Telethon Trust from 2000 to 2017, Gold Corporation and the West Coast Eagles Football Club.

Chris was a member of the WA Olympic Team Appeal Committee from 2000 to 2017. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a former Councillor and Vice President of the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also a former member of the Committee for Perth.

He was awarded an AM in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday honours for services to the print and broadcast industries and for services to the community.

‘Chris has extensive commercial and community engagement knowledge and is a wonderful addition to our Board.’ CEO Dean Turner said of Chris’ appointment.

‘A long-time supporter of the Royals, Chris is a highly respected person within WA and around Australia.’

Mr Turner continued ‘On behalf of the Club, I would like to thank Alan Quartermaine for his decade of service to the Club as a Director.’

‘Taking responsibility for overseeing the Finance Portfolio, the Club has seen significant growth and increased stability through Alan’s tenure.’

The East Perth FC AGM will take place on Sunday the 18th of December in the Members Bar at Leederville Oval starting at 10.30am.
