Royals to face ladder leader Subi after first loss of 2014

Monday, April 14, 2014 - 9:13 AM

EAST Perth’s Colts opened the round with a 56-point win over West Perth, but it failed to set the tone for the day with our Reserves and League teams both suffering disappointing losses against last year’s premier.

The Royals were unable to generate any momentum, with the Falcons maintaining their lead at every change in the, 22.17 (149) to 7.7 (49), loss.

Craig Wulff produced a typically courageous display with 29 possessions, three inside 50s and a goal, while Brett Dobson and Steven Payne (23 disposals), Nathan Blee (16 touches) and Freddie Clutterbuck (20 disposals, two inside 50s) did their best to withhold the pressure.

Simon Tunbridge, was the only multiple goal kicker for the Royals with three goals from just 9 possessions.

Mark Hutchings (22), Julian Locantro (23) and Callum Hart (15) kicked a goal respectively, while the Falcons kept last year’s Bernie Naylor Medalist, Josh Smith, goalless.

East Perth missed the influence of defender Kyle Anderson, who was a late withdrawal and Jarrad Oakley Nicholls.

West Perth’s 25 marks inside their forward 50 zone rewarded the midfield for their effort, with Aaron Black (30), Rohan Kerr (26), Andrew Strijk (28), Steven Potente (25) and Shane Nelson (23) taking charge for the Falcons.

Anthony Tsalikis kicked six goals, Marcus Adams had five and Matthew Fowler kicked four.

East Perth will regroup to face their unbeaten co-tenant Subiaco on Good Friday at Medibank Stadium.

RESERVES

Trent Bradshaw, Sam Ims, Steven Wityk and Kane Moulton kicked a goal each in the Reserves, 22.14 (146) to 4.7 (31), loss.

Jackson Slater (22 possessions, four inside 50s), Mitch Howlett (18 possessions, five inside 50s), and Tom Shanahan (20 disposals, two inside 50s) were the leading possession getters for the Royals.

COLTS

The Colts, 13.10 (88) to 3.14 (32) victory was helped by two, three goal hauls from Jack Gare and Matt Marinoni.

Miller, Modica, Kalimeris, Young, Buckley, Decke, and Armstrong kicked a goal each in the 56-point win.

Marty Zambotto had 30 possessions and five inside 50s, while, Hadden (25), Miller (24), Decke (22), Ipsen (22) and Linford (20) had plenty of the ball.
