Royals Preview Round 22
East Perth host South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium this Saturday in a do-or-die clash that could determine the season for the Royals. East Perth have noted down some huge inclusions and we analyze some of the key battle lines to be won or lost for this blockbuster game of Round 22.
In’s:
After showing some promise earlier this season as a solid all-rounder Liam Duggan comes back into midfield, alongside Corey Adamson. Nathan Blee has also been names and could feature across half back with teammates Tom Gorter and Paddy Brophy. Jamie Bennell could also make his way into the side after booting 5 goals in the Reserves.
Jordan Snadden, Thomas Hodgson, Matthew Allen and Thomas Omodei have also been named on the extended bench.
Out’s:
Given the Eagles Friday Night showdown against the Hawks, East Perth have lost Lewis Jetta and Eric Mackenzie. Patrick McGinnity will also miss the clash due to the knock he copped last week. McGinnity’s hard-ball style of play and Mackenzie’s composure down back will be missed but the Royals will still have a solid and experienced defense line with Mitchell Fraser and Mitchell Brown.
Battle Lines:
Home ground Advantage: Both teams have met 18 times at Medibank and have each won 9 games aside, so East Perth cannot take a home ground advantage as a given this weekend. The last time these clubs met at Fremantle Oval in Round 15 the Royals downed the Bulldogs in an unexpected win. East Perth will need to play as if they are vying for a win away from home.
Forward X Factor: Jamie Bennell has come back into the side this week and if he can get some confidence early on in the game, he could be the leader up forward the Royals need. The Royals have had some difficulty putting pressure on the scoreboard in recent weeks. If Bennell, Giles and McInnes can lift and grab a couple goals apiece, the Royals will have basis’s covered come Saturday.
Rovers: The Royals are playing Liam Duggan and Corey Adamson as followers. It’ll be a great test of their resilience with Redden and Wulff to add experience. Both players have shown excellent versatility around the ground which could make all the difference.
