Pre-Season Preview
The Royals kick start their 2018 Premiership campaign tomorrow at East Fremantle Oval against the Sharks. With the Royals coming off a solid preseason and the Sharks wanting to show off some new recruits it promises to be a cracking game between two teams who expect big things out of 2018.
The story of the game will be Nic Naitanui’s return to football after an 18-month layoff after rupturing his ACL in 2016. All football followers will be hoping for a safe and successful return for the dual All-Australian. The biggest name in WA football will share ruck duties with young Aaron Redhead who will also play his first senior game for the Royals and the exciting Asher Samelko.
Recruits Sharrad Wellingham and Jackson Ramsay will be keen to show off what they can offer the Royals in 2018. After coming off AFL lists at the end of last year both have relished the environment at the Royals and have plenty to offer this season. The polish of Wellingham and the toughness of Ramsay are important components of our impressive midfield unit.
Reigning FD Book Julian Ameduri and Nathan Blee will be looking to build on their strong performances from last year. Stan Wright, Will Maginness and Callum Hart have impressed everyone at the club this preseason and look primed for big seasons. Shayne Hille will be looking to stamp his authority across half forward and through the middle
Co Captains Kyle Anderson and Pat McGinnity as well as defender Tom Gorter will miss the clash to manage niggles in readiness for the season.
The reserves take a young, but exciting squad into their preseason match. Nelson Waite, Mitch Dobson and Taylor North will all be looking to press their case for more time in the seniors after getting a taste last year. 12 Colts graduates from 2017 including Christian Ameduri, Sam East, Kye Willcocks and Harley Stack will take the field with the future of the Royals looking bright.
