Pre Season 1 Review
The Royals have gotten off to a positive start in our first competitive hit out in preparation for the 2018 McDonalds Premiership Season. The big news of the game was Nic Naitanui playing his first game in 18 months however a number of other players took centre stage down at ‘Shark Park’.
The Royals got off to a great start kicking with the wind in the first quarter. Reigning FD Book Medallist Julian Ameduri found plenty of the ball and looked strong around the contest. The Sharks held the Royals goalless in the second term, but the boys responded strongly in the third with Will Maginness looking dangerous around goal, creating several clever opportunities.
The fourth quarter was a vast improvement on the second with the Royals running out winners by 25 points.
Stan Wright was a standout kicking 4 goals and gathering many possessions across half forward. Nathan Eaton booted 3 goals and was a good target up forward before leaving the ground due to a knock to the head.
The Reserves were very impressive in their match. A very young side, with several Colts graduates and a few still of Colts age, their superior intent around the ball and fitness was clear to see. With the same core group of players from last season as well as an injection of talent from the 2017 Colts this side will look to improve on their results from 2017.
The Colts had a tough morning against the reigning Premiers. In their first match together under the guidance of former League player Garry Moss the boys never recovered from a slow start. There were some promising signs and the team will only improve with more game time over the next two weeks
