WAFL Reserves to host Saturday Grand Final
The 2018 WAFL Reserves Grand Final will be hosted by the winner of the Second Semi-Final on Saturday, September 22.
The stand-alone Reserves Grand Final was confirmed this morning as part of an announcement to play the League and Colts Grand Finals the following day at Optus Stadium, where the winning Reserves team will be recognised and celebrated at half time.
West Australian Football Commission CEO Gavin Taylor said that the Reserves competition remained a key part of the WA Football structure and the WAFC would focus its efforts on making the Reserves Grand Final an exciting stand-alone event.
"We value and recognise the importance of the WAFL Reserves competition in supporting the success of the WAFL and are focussing our efforts on making sure the Reserves Grand Final is a great experience for everyone involved," he said.
"We explored the possibility of playing the Reserves Grand Final at Optus Stadium along with the League and Colts but the commercial model of playing three games on the same day including costs, logisitcs and loading on the turf meant it wasn't possible.
"It is a new era for WA football and we have to adapt to the new stadium moving forward. We will undertake a full review at the end of the year and hopefully with a bumper crowd we will be able to reconsider how we schedule all three games in the future."
The 2018 McDonald’s WAFL Grand Final will be played at Optus Stadium at 2.40pm on Sunday, September 23 featuring the first ever public kick-to-kick on the ground for fans.
Fans are encouraged to pre-purchase tickets to the WAFL Grand Final as free public transport is included in the ticket price.
The day will also include the Colts Grand Final as a curtain-raiser.
