Round 3 Preview
After a scrappy but triumphant game against Swans; Coach Jeremy Barnard believes the players are really starting to embrace his coaching style. He goes onto say “Early days we had teething problems, with terminology certainly and game style. The last 7 – 8 weeks I’ve been really pleased with how the team are coming along. And I’m really pleased with how the players are embracing it and trying to execute it.”
The last few training sessions, the coaches have been keeping a close eye on which players may be up for League selection. Three players Barney has been impressed with recently are Aaron Redhead, Jamie Rudrum and 2018 Eric Smith Medallist Taylor North.
Barney shared “We’ve been really impressed with how Aaron is progressing as a Ruck Forward and he will be really close to selection. Jamie as a pressure midfielder has been going really well. And Taylor has been really impressive with how he’s training and also how he’s playing, so he’ll be in strong contention as a Backman for this weeks game.”
Barney hasn’t shied away from the fact that Claremont will be a tough side to beat this weekend. “The first point is, we can’t wait to play the best teams, so it’s really important for us to measure ourselves against the best sides in the WAFL and see where our strengths lie and where our room for improvements lie.” He adds “It’ll be a tough game, Claremont are on the top of the ladder and are going really well. We are really looking forward to the challenge and we think if we play the Royals way we’ll be a really good chance.”
The “Royals 23rd man” will be important at this weekend’s game to have the teams back during the tough fight for the 4 points.
So make sure to get around the Mighty Royals this Easter Long Weekend Game with players making time for members, by signing hats and taking selfies at the end of the game.
