Around the Grounds - Round 17
After falling short in the Polly Farmer Shield match, the Royals will be looking to come out firing after the bye. East Perth can still qualify for the finals if they can win their last 4 matches. Controversially losing the Round 7 fixture against the Bulldogs on the 25th of May, the Royals go into the match with confidence they can beat the 3rd placed South Fremantle. East Perth will welcome back recruit Angus Scott, who has recovered from a calf injury and 2017 FD Book Medallist Nathan Blee who has missed the majority of the season with a broken hand.
Scott has impressed in his first season at the Royals. The wingman was in good form before succumbing to a calf strain in the opening minutes of our match against Swan Districts. His run and ball use will play a key role in the Royals keeping their 2019 finals aspirations alive.
The return of Nathan Blee is timely. East Perth’s ‘Mr Fix-It’ adds vital experience and versatility to our young side.
Fresh off being named in The West Australian’s ‘Top 50 WAFL Footballers’ Jackson Ramsay, Sharrod Wellingham, Mitch Dobson, Ajang Ajang and Rohan Kerr will be pivotal for the Royals.
It is shaping as a big day at the club with East Perth hosting a Tribute Lunch for Mal Brown before the match. Members of the 1972 East Perth Premiership team and the 1980 South Fremantle Premiership side will come together and pay tribute to WA Football Legend Mal Brown.
In our other matches our Reserves will look to cement a place in the 5. Sitting 5th, the Ressies are on the same points as 2nd placed West Perth. A win could put them as high as 3rd with 3 games remaining.
The Colts will be looking to continue their good run of form. Having already qualified for the finals, they are in the same position as our Reserves and are eyeing off a spot in the Top 3.
