Media Release - Royals To Enter Team In The WAFLW Rogers Cup 2020
Friday, November 22, 2019 - 2:03 PM
East Perth Football Club will enter a side in the WAFC’s underage female competition the WAFLW Rogers Cup. This decision has been made after discussions with our affiliate side the East Perth Women’s Football Club (EPWFC) and the WAFC as the best way to nurture women’s football and ensure a clear talent pathway is established in the East Perth zone.
For the past four seasons the EPWFC has run as an affiliate club to East Perth FC based at Altone Park in Beechboro, with teams playing in the Rogers Cup, WAWFL Reserves in that time as well as a League side in 2017.
‘Donna Nowotny and everyone who has been involved in the EPWFC must be commended for their efforts in building a club from scratch.’ CEO Dean Turner said
‘Whilst the senior teams struggled to compete against the long-established clubs in the competition, the one area everyone is excited about is the talent they were able to identify and nurture.’
The Rogers Cup football and commercial operations will now be incorporated into the operations of the East Perth FC.
The EPWFC will continue supporting the footy pathway and developing female participation in the East Perth District.
East Perth will continue to work with the WAFC to develop the female program with the aim of also establishing a WAFLW league team in the future.
‘We believe that taking the talent identified by EPWFC and putting the club’s resources and knowledge into developing these exciting players, as well as those coming through the junior clubs in the District, we are well placed to join and compete in the WAFLW’ East Perth Director Jo Davies commented.
