Results: Round 5
It was a tale of two halves on Saturday at Leederville Oval as East Perth’s league side squandered a 19-point buffer at half time, to be overrun by Claremont who finished 12.14 (86) to 8.4 (52) winners.
The Tigers weren’t able to match East Perth’s efficiency in attack during the second term, as the Royals booted seven goals to take advantage of the strong northerly wind. When Rohan Kerr kicked truly from 45 metres out, the Royals had stretched the lead to 19-points at the long break.
However, Claremont’s midfield got to work after half time, finishing the game on top in contested possession 131-86 and clearances 41-23.
Kye Willcocks, Nick Robertson and Corey Watts were named among East Perth’s best against the Tigers.
Robertson, who spent time on Claremont midfielder Jye Bolton, held the dual Sandover Medallist to 11 touches and six clearances in the first half, while being potent in attack for the Royals.
In the Reserves, the Royals survived a late charge from Claremont to win by four points, remaining unbeaten in 2020. Meanwhile, East Perth’s Colts suffered a 40-point loss at the hands of the Tigers.
The Royals will face Subiaco on Saturday at Leederville Oval in Round 6 of the Optus 2020 WAFL Season.
