Player Announcement
The Royals have hit the ground running in 2022 signing three exciting recruits, Gordon Narrier, Kyle Hamersley and Thomas Medhat.
“We are excited about the addition of three quality young players in Thomas, Kyle and Gordon and we’re confident that they will have a great impact not only on the 2022 season, but for seasons to come” East Perth Football Manager Warren Parker said of the three recruits
“Each player brings something different to the table and we are excited to see what they can do after getting a pre-season under their belt at the club”
Narrier has come to the Club as a free agent. Originally from Perth, Gordon is a 187cm, 77kg forward, who is lightning quick, with good skills and is very dangerous around goals. He was drafted at pick 20 in the 2017 Rookie Draft by North Melbourne, however, did not play a senior game. He comes to the Royals with 32 games of State League experience having played 17 for Perth and 15 for the North Melbourne in the VFL.
“Gordon has spent the last couple of seasons playing regionally with family at Northam in the AFA. He’s got pace, skill and goal sense and I can see him having an impact for us both as a forward or as an outside midfielder. He’s been away from WAFL football for a couple of years but is really eager to establish himself and play some good long-term football for the Royals” Parker said.
Reigning Upper Great Southern Best and Fairest winner Kyle Hamersley has also made the move to Leederville from South Fremantle. The 185cm, 81kg midfielder/forward was awarded the UGSFL’s highest honour after a standout season for Wagin. Kyle played all eight home and away games in South Fremantle’s 2020 Premiership winning season.
“Kyle spent the 2021 season playing football out in the country with Wagin where he tied for the UGSFL Leo Graham Medal as the competitions best & fairest player. He’s a big bodied, versatile player with a beautiful left boot that brings great character, and we are really excited that he’s decided to return to the WAFL after a year off and join the East Perth” Warren commented
East Perth’s trifecta is completed through a player swap, with the Royals trading Aidan Lynch for Thomas Medhat. Medhat is a 21-year-old, 191cm, 81kg lead up forward who is noted for his making capabilities and work ethic. Medhat has represented WA at Under 16’s and 18’s level and has worked with Assistant Coach Ross McQueen and Director of Coaching Tony Micale as a part of those squads.
Parker stated “Tom has made the move to East Perth from West Perth in a transfer which sees Aidan Lynch return to West Perth after a couple of seasons at the Royals. Tom is a talented young forward who has had limited League exposure (10 games) but has a lot of upside and we see him becoming an important player in our forward line well into the future. Kicking goals is an area we must improve to jump up the ladder and Tom brings that ability”
Parker also commented on the Aiden Lynch situation “Aidan played some good football for the club after transferring over two seasons ago, but the addition of players like Hamish Brayshaw, Michael Randall, Tom Wallis & Damon Greaves in the off-season, along with the continued growth of blokes like Matthew Young, Christian Ameduri, Angus Schumacher and Stan Wright means we have great confidence we can cover his exit.”
Warren continued “We’ve acquired a good young forward in return and those blokes don’t grow on trees, so we feel confident this is a good move for our long-term list management”
