Stately Royals
Three Royals have made the squad of 26 for the WA vs South Australia State Match on Sunday. East Perth Vice Captains Scott Jones and Hamish Brayshaw along with Angus Schumacher, who was a late inclusion into the WA training squad, have been named. Jacob Msando unfortunately has not been named but has had a stellar start to the year for the Royals and was justly recognised by training with the initial squad.
Jones, who has been the number one ruckman in the WAFL this season, will look to give a star-studded WA midfield first use of the ball. Scott has also been a key marking target around the ground. This and his increased work rate around the stoppages makes him a handful for opponents.
It is fair to say that Angus has had a season like no one else before him. Schumacher was left out of the initial squad, only being a late inclusion last week. The 23-year-old has twice travelled with West Coast as a top up player. Impressive form early in the year clearly impressed the selectors.
Recruit Hamish Brayshaw has also been rewarded with selection in the playing squad after a stellar start in 2022. Two best on grounds in the first four matches, Hamish can put forward a solid argument for being the recruit of the year so far. A big bodied, composed midfielder, Brayshaw’s work around stoppages and his ability to hit the scoreboard have been a tremendous assets to the Royals improved performances in 2022.
