SuperKids SuperHeroes - NAB AFL Auskickers raise money for Childhood Cancer
This weekend, NAB AFL Auskickers across WA will dress up as their favourite superhero in a bid to raise money for The Kids Cancer Project.
Running for the last 4 years, the SuperKids SuperHeroes Round has run in memory of Declan Kane and many other kids who have and are battling cancer.
Auskickers from Carine JFC, Mt Lawley/ Inglewood JFC, Coolbinia JFC and Applecross/ Mt Pleasant JFC, as well as much-loved West Coast Eagles star Josh Kennedy, joined forces at Optus stadium, dressed in superhero costumes for an afternoon of footy they’ll never forget.
Auskick and Junior Football Coordinator, Michelle Sewell, the organiser of your favourite Optus Stadium halftime show said she feels proud to be working with Declan’s parents and the NAB AFL Auskick community.
“This round makes me feel incredibly proud and emotional,” Sewell said.
“I have been lucky enough to be a part of this round as a coach/ parent at Junior Club level but now as the State Auskick Coordinator getting to run it, I feel so privileged and honoured to help Kim and Simo and the whole SuperKids SuperHeroes team raise awareness for childhood cancer through NAB AFL Auskick,”
“We are also giving our Auskickers/ kids the chance to support their counterparts who are too unwell to play footy, in a fun rewarding way. We are turning something sad, into something special.”
Executive Manager Junior, Youth and Community Football, Troy Kirkham, said he is proud of the WA football community doing their bit.
“The WAFC sees the SuperKids SuperHeroes Round as one of the really significant rounds for Auskick participants and the community clubs each year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for kids to have fun, playing Auskick, dressed like a superhero, whilst raising funds to help fight childhood cancers,” Kirkham said.
“The SuperKids SuperHeroes Round has continued to grow right across WA, and hopefully one day every Auskick Centre in Australia is supporting this initiative, in helping raise funds for such a great cause.”
All proceeds from fundraising from the NAB AFL Auskick games will go directly towards The Kids Cancer Project and the West Australian Football Commission is encouraging people to dig deep.
Donations can be made here or in person to collectors.
