Football Department Update | 17 March

SENIOR MEN'S (LEAGUE & RESERVES) FOOTBALL DEPARTMENT UPDATE

PRESEASON RECAP
Last week marked our first preseason hit out as we played an intra-club match on Friday 10^th March here at Leederville Oval.

This gave the players a much-needed competitive hit out and the coaches a good look at how we’ve progressed in several areas regarding individual skill, structures, and game plan. Overall, we were happy with the match. It was clear we still have a few things to tidy up before we play our best football, but all involved got what they needed from the game.

For the League Side, Scott Jones, Hamish Brayshaw, Christian Ameduri and Angus Schumacher had decent hit outs through the middle of the ground while Corey Watts and Taylor North were solid in Defence. It was fantastic to see new recruits in Mitchell Crowden, Harrison Macreadie, Tom North, Liam Tedesco, and Alex Pearce out there in the Royals colours and it’s clear that each will bring something valuable to the table for the 2023 season in our bid to move up the ladder.

Jordan Hayden, Sandon Page, Kade Dittmar, Ethan Regan, Sam Van Diemen, and Mitchell Schofield all showed encouraging signs as young developing players looking to add to their League experience while unblooded players like Patrick Reilly, Jayden Peak, Josh Harris, and Darcy Miller (just to name a few) had moments in the game which reinforce that our Development Programs are on the right path. We look forward to seeing the youth continue to grow and play some good football over the course of the season.

We’ll come up against South Fremantle this weekend looking to field a good side. We are missing a few players in the form of Tom Graham, Harrison Macreadie, Stanley Wright, Nicholas Robertson, Angus Schumacher, Kyle Hamersley, and Bradley Fullgrabe due to injury and unavailability while Shayne Hille and Jacob Msando will take the field in the Reserves side as they work back from preseason injuries.

All preparations over the next 3 weeks are geared towards being 100% ready for Round 1 and we’re looking forward to seeing some competitive games v South Fremantle and WCE in the coming weeks as part of that prep.
