Top Ten: FD Book Medal
We breakdown the top ten of the 2014 FD Book Medal in our player review.
Steven Payne
24-year old, Steven Payne, was rewarded in October when he claimed the FD Book Medal as the Royals' fairest and best winner. Payne, an Augusta / Margaret River product, made his league debut in 2011 and this season averaged 25 possessions a game, only three times did he slip under 20, with highs of 35 in Round 21, 32 in Round 10, 32 in Round 18 and 30 in Round 7.
Craig Wulff
For 246-game veteran, Craig Wulff, 2014 was his 12th season. Wulff finished runner up in the FD Book Medal and averaged 24 disposals, kicking 18 goals in one of the best seasons of his career and the 31-year old is poised to play on in 2015.
Nathan Blee
In Nathan Blee’s first year back from Port Adelaide, he was a pillar in the backline and stood tall when fellow defender Kyle Anderson missed games through injury. Blee averaged 19 possessions in defense and even found himself on the scoreboard with his first career goal in Round 3.
Paul Johnson
Ruckman, Paul Johnson, had a big year again in 2014 sharing his duties with Callum Sinclair, Scott Lycett and Fraser McInnes. The big man averaged 23 disposals and kicked 14 goals in his third season at the Royals.
Fraser McInnes
Coach Brian Dawson experimented with positions for big man and West Coast Eagles listed player, Fraser McInnes, this season. McInnes was used in a utility role mainly in the forward line but also ventured down back and pitched in to ruck when required. He averaged 13 possessions in 2014 and kicked 28 goals.
Mitch Fraser
For 20-year old, Mitch Fraser, 2014 was just his second season playing league football. The Busselton youngster averaged 13 disposals, took 83 marks and had 46 tackles in 20 matches. His best game came in Round 15 against Peel Thunder where he gathered 23 touches.
Brendan Lee
2014 was a year of reward for Busselton’s Brendan Lee. The co-captain not only celebrated his 100th league game with a big win over Perth at Lathlain Park in August, but he also was given the honour of captaining the state in their huge victory over the NEAFL in Sydney in May. Despite playing just 16 games this season having missed with injury, Lee average 26 disposals and kicked five goals.
Freddie Clutterbuck
A vital member of the midfield, wingman Freddie Clutterbuck averaged 19 disposals in 2014, kicking five goals. One of his best games came in the Round 11 win against Perth at Lathlain where he gathered 28 possessions and kicked two goals and Round 1 against Peel Thunder with 23 touches, five tackles and another two goals.
