Royals Reign At Medibank
East Perth sent a message to the competition with a thumping win in its Good Friday match against an in form Subiaco, 115-51. The Lions went into the game red-hot favourites with two impressive wins in the opening two rounds against Claremont and East Fremantle. The Royals also went into the clash without influential big man Paul Johnson.
The win was set up with a ten goal to three first half. Murray Newman was dangerous up forward showing class and finishing with four goals. The newest Royals 'Swing Man' Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls continued his impressive start to the year, this match as the second ruckman with 16 touches, 4 marks and 14 hit outs despite his opponents having a considerable size advantage. Jarrad has been given 3 different roles in the first 3 games. East Perth product Agid Gardoud provided the highlight of the match kicking his first goal in his first senior match.
The Royals won every quarter in the dominant display. Brant Colledge showed his potential as a match winner amassing 36 touches, including 3 goals, whilst also having 9 marks and 8 tackles. Fraser McInnes continued to push for higher honours with 22 touches, 32 hit outs and a goal to be the dominant big man on the ground.
Down back it was again Vice-Captain Kyle Anderson who lead from the front to not allow the Lions to kick more than 2 goals in any quarter. Mitch Fraser worked tirelessly as well, collecting 28 touches and 10 marks providing plenty of rebound out of the last line of defense.
Earlier in the day the Colts chalked up their first win of the season with a solid win. After a slow start in the opening 2 matches the boys came out firing with a 6 goal to 1 opening quarter. Ben Miller and Stan Wright were ball magnets with 27 and 29 touches respectively whilst Tahir Bayok was dominant up forward with 9 marks and 3 goals.
In the Reserves a poor 3rd quarter cost the Royals. Subi Reserves only lost 1 game in the 2014 home and away season and showed they are again the side to beat. There were some encouraging signs for the Royals however. Damian Lee showed his talent with a game high 35 possessions, whilst Mitch Howlett showed his defensive pressure with 12 tackles.
East Perth has a bye this weekend in all grades. The boys face Peel Thunder at Medibank Stadium on the 18th of April.
