WA State 18's claim 1 point victory over defending champions
After claiming back-to-back wins in the past two seasons, the South Australians finally met their match against WA in the opening game of the 2015 NAB AFL under-18 Championships.
In an exciting game in typical sunny Perth conditions, WA got off to flying starts in both halves with 3 goals in the opening 20 minutes and landing the first 2 goals of the second half. South Australia steadily pegged back the deficit but a goal from East Perth’s Sam Powell-Pepper was enough to get WA over the line.
Final Score: WA 11.7 (73) d SA 9.18 (72)
Although ineligible for the draft until 2016, Sam Powell-Pepper showed why he will be among the most entertaining players to watch during the national carnival. Vic Country face Western Australia this Sunday at Medibank Stadium, bounce down at 12pm.
