Johnson Wins 2nd FD Book Medal

Paul Johnson has won his 2nd FD Book medal in 4 years finishing with 66 votes, 7 votes ahead of born again backman Garry Moss.
Affectionately known as ‘Tower’ the East Perth ruckman had another stellar year as our 1st choice ruckman. Johnson averaged 17 disposals, 5 marks and an impressive 32.5 hit outs per game in 2015. Paul also represented WA for the 3rd time.
The 32 year old again showed his fortitude playing 22 of 23 games. Johnsons form at the back end of the season was a testament to his talent and character rucking almost entire games with very little rest or rotations.
Paul made a resounding speech on receiving the FD Book Medal. Speaking of the difficulties of balancing work and football commitments with a young family he impressed on the young group that the Royals have ‘unfinished business’. To reach the ultimate success the group must stay together and continue to improve.
After missing the Royals 2 grand finals and the majority of the last 2 seasons through injury it was good reward for Garry Moss who was thrown down back at the start of the year to make use of his elite kicking ability. Garry made the most of his time on stage spoking to the over 150 strong crowd about the fact that everyone’s time at a football club is fleeting and the importance to leave a legacy.
The Eric Smith Medallion was presented to Tom Hodgson who finished 2 votes ahead of Prendergast Medallist Tom Shanahan. Tom made his League debut in terrible conditions at the Showgrounds against Claremont this year and is an exciting talent for the football club.
In the Colts Jack Clarke Medallist Stan Wright added the Hec Strempel Medal to his collection. Having stepped up to play a handful of senior games at the end of 2015, the 17 year old from Dunsborough is one of an impressive group of young stars coming through our Development programs.
