A Fine Gesture
Life member Alan East has made available to the club access to his vast collections of photos of East Perth players, and people who have been associated with the club during the period from the late 1970’s to early 2000.
Among the photos was the original A3 size photo that appeared in the 1975 annual report titled – The End of an Era- The photo captured the members who attended the last committee meeting chaired by Hec Strempel before the club adopted the board system in 1976. It is interesting to note that of the twelve members who appear in the photo only Jim Haines, Harry Atlas, Jack Clayton, Dobbie Graham, and Roger Barnes survive today. The photo had suffered some damage, fortunately Garry Kennedy of Picton Press offered to repair the damage, and he produced a copy of the photo which has been added to our history file.
During the 1950s to early 1970, there are numerous photos of Players, Officials, and teams contained in our annual reports. Unfortunately, the original photos have never been retained, and our only record is the copies of our annual reports.
Today, the club officials recognise the importance of retaining photographic history.
Alan’s gesture in allowing us to scan the photos is greatly appreciated. We have added to our computerised history files 1,403 images of players and 350 images of East Perth people.
Former players and people can apply to the club and if images of them are contained in our history file, the club is willing to send copies via email.
