Paceman Picks East Perth In Retirement - Picture: Steve Ferrier/The West Australian.
Recently retired Test cricketer Mitchell Johnson and his wife Jessica have accepted an invitation to become joint number-one ticketholders for the East Perth Football Club for the 2016 WAFL season.
East Perth hasn’t appointed a number-one ticketholder since the mid-1990s but President Bronte Howson said the Club was delighted Mitch and Jess had accepted his invitation to take on the joint role.
“Mitch and Jess are a really inspiring couple,” said Mr Howson. “When we realised Mitch wasn’t following any WAFL team we made an approach and he agreed to become a Loyal Royal.
“Having Jess as the joint number-one ticketholder is a reflection of our commitment to offering a fully inclusive experience for our members and supporters,” he said.
“As much as we admire Mitch’s outstanding cricket achievements, we also admire Jess’s sporting and business successes.”
Mitch said he hadn’t previously had time to support a WAFL team but was attracted to East Perth by the Club’s leadership and its rich history.
“Bronte mounts a fairly persuasive case; in fact it’s hard to say no to him because he’s really passionate about the Club and I think that flows right through the organisation,” said Mitch.
“Jess and I are happy to be involved and I hope we can encourage other East Perth supporters to take the next step and become full members.”
