Players gear up for AFL State Combine

Twenty-one WAFL players will undergo testing at the 2018 AFL State Draft Combine this Sunday.

The WA invites include 11 WA State Academy players including Regan Spooner, Ethan Hansen and Luke Moore who were all standouts in the 2018 NAB AFL National 18s Championship Series earlier this year.

Congratulations to East Perth's own Louis Miller who will undergo body composition testing and then take part in speed, agility, power and endurance tests.


Following the tests, players will then speak with AFL Club representatives.

Partnership Officially Ends

The partnership between East Perth and the West Coast Eagles officially ended last night when the WAFL Council of Presidents voted in favour of West Coast having a standalone team in the WAFL League competition from 2019.

The West Coast Eagles will become the 10th team in the WAFL competition, with a fixture to be formulated so that all teams play each other twice whilst still retaining byes and marquee rounds throughout the season.

Simply Energy Talent Carnival results

Emerging young footballers were recently put to the test in the 2018 Simply Energy WA Football League Talent Carnival.

The carnival, conducted between the nine WAFL Clubs, saw under 14s and 15s compete in three rounds.

The carnival helps introduce players to the talent pathway and emphasises the fundamentals of the game in a competitive match-day environment.

AFL Draft Combine results

West Australian players showcased their talent at the NAB AFL Draft Combine at Etihad Stadium this week.

Perth's Luke English impressed in the Yo-Yo test, finishing equal second with Geelong Falcons' Sam Walsh on level 22-1.

English ranked fifth in the two-kilometre time trial clocking 6mins 11secs, Claremont's Jordan Clark not far behind on 6mins 14secs.

FD Book Medal Night 2018

For the third time in the club’s history and the second time in two years, the FD Book Medal has finished in a three-way tie. Patrick McGinnity, Luke Partington and Matthew Allen tied on 30 votes ahead of 4th placed Brayden Ainsworth on 29 votes.

2018 WAFL Life Members honoured

FIVE long-serving West Australian Football League identities were recently honoured with WAFL Life Membership at the 2018 Sandover Medal count.

Each of the new WAFL Life Members was nominated by their peers in recognition of their achievements and commitment to WA’s premier State League competition.

West Australian Football Commission Chairman Murray McHenry congratulated all of the new Life Members on receiving the honour and said they were highly deserving of the recognition.

WA players attending AFL Draft Combine

A total of 11 WAFL players will undertake testing at the NAB AFL National Draft Combine tomorrow, Tuesday October 2, to Friday October 5.

East Perth's Damon Greaves,pictured, earnt an invite along with Jordan Clark, following his impressive performance for WA at the NAB AFL National 18s Championships.

Luke English and Sydney Stack who were selected for the All-Australians 18s team have also been invited.

2018 Reserves Premiership

SUBIACO have made it back-to-back WAFL reserves premierships kicking the last two goals to overcome East Perth by 18 points at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

The Lions and Royals played out a dramatic and exciting second semi-final two weeks ago and it was a similarly tight and hard fought Grand Final contest between the Leederville Oval co-tenants.

That day two weeks ago saw Subiaco kick the opening eight goals of the game before East Perth stormed home to score a dramatic win to book their place in the Grand Final.
