Round 7 Optus WAFL Preview

ROUND 7 of the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season sees all five matches take place on Saturday afternoon with Subiaco trying to respond to a loss for the first time in over two years while South Fremantle tries to keep winning and East Fremantle attempts to make it consecutive wins.

There are five matches in Round 7 of the WAFL and all have plenty of reasons to be fascinated by in a full round of Saturday fixtures ahead of the WA Day long weekend.

Four of the five matches on Saturday all begin at 2.15pm with Swan Districts and the West Coast Eagles battling at Steel Blue Oval in a contest between two teams desperate for a win.

AFL Mid-Season Draft Watch

For the first time in 26 years, the AFL will be conducting a mid-season AFL Draft. The draft will occur after round 10 of the AFL season (Round 7 of the WAFL competition).

In the past the WAFL has proven to be an excellent hunting ground for AFL recruiters with the likes of Nathan Broad, Tim Kelly, Matthew Parker and Liam Ryan all being drafted onto an AFL list after playing for their WAFL club.

Optus WAFL Round 6 Wrap

IT was a remarkable day of Round 6 WAFL action on Saturday with East Fremantle snapping its 15-game losing run, South Fremantle ending Subiaco's winning streak, West Perth finishing Perth's undefeated start and a win for Claremont on the back of East Perth's Thursday victory.

Round 6 of the WAFL began on Thursday night with the league recommencing following the general bye for the 2019 KIA State Game, which saw the WAFL narrowly lose to the SANFL in a tremendous contest last Sunday at Optus Stadium.

Thursday night's contest took place at Leederville Oval featuring the first clash between East Perth and West Coast following the partnership between the Royals and Eagles coming to an end following last season.

State Game Match Report – SANFL pips WAFL at Optus

THE KIA WAFL State Team has just fallen short of its piece of history with the SANFL producing a tremendous second half kicking eight of the last 12 goals to win the 2019 State Game by seven points at Optus Stadium.

It proved a tremendous showcase of State football between the two leading competitions in the country with South Australia managing to bring an end to Western Australia's string of winning six consecutive State matches despite being 22 points down in the first half.

On the back of having won the past six State Games it had contested including last year's drought breaking result over the SANFL at Adelaide Oval, the WAFL started strongly at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Round 4 Colts Wrap

SWAN Districts and Peel Thunder continued their unbeaten starts to the WAFL Colts season with Round 4 victories with South Fremantle scoring its first win of 2019 and East Perth prevailing in a thriller over Perth.

Round 4 in the colts began on Friday afternoon at Leederville Oval with Peel Thunder beating Subiaco 15.15 (105) to 6.4 (40).

Then on Friday night at Lathlain's Mineral Resources Park, the thriller of the round took place and East Perth just managed to hold off Perth for the 9.11 (65) to 9.6 (60) victory.

Optus WAFL Round 4 Wrap

THE WAFL has two remaining undefeated teams after four rounds of the 2019 season with Perth and Subiaco continuing their winning ways over the ANZAC Round while South Fremantle, the West Coast Eagles and Swan Districts also were victorious.

Perth made it four straight to open the season with its win on ANZAC Day while Subiaco remained undefeated since the 2017 Grand Final with its big win on Saturday.

Swan Districts broke its duck in the battle of winless teams against West Perth while South Fremantle continued its recent derby dominance and the Eagles won the thriller of the round, handing the Tigers their first defeat.
