Round 16 Colts Wrap

SUBIACO remain top of the WAFL Colts despite having the bye in Round 16 with fellow top teams Peel Thunder and Swan Districts losing while East Fremantle and South Fremantle scored strong victories as West Perth and Claremont kept their finals hopes alive.

It was a big round in the colts action with the league-leading Subiaco having the bye and all other eight teams remaining in finals contention with the battle right on for the top four spots, and then the other five clubs all fighting over fifth position.

All four games were played on Saturday morning in challenging conditions but it produced some fascinating results starting with South Fremantle beating an inaccurate Peel Thunder 5.11 (41) to 3.19 (37) at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

Round 16 Match Report – Claremont v East Perth

CLAREMONT Oval wasn’t quite conducive to an attractive match on Saturday but Claremont adapted to the conditions the better to beat East Perth by 24 points to return to the WAFL top five.
 
Fifth position on the WAFL ladder went on the line at Claremont Oval on Saturday between Claremont and East Perth. 
 
A water soaked Claremont Oval always meant that ball movement and scoring was going to be a challenge throughout the afternoon, so when the Tigers had kicked five goals to two in the first half to lead by 23 points at half-time it appeared to be a match-winning advantage. Read More [+]

Round 15 Match Report – Swan Districts v East Perth

EAST Perth returned to the winner's list in emphatic style on Saturday beating Swan Districts by 61 points at Steel Blue Oval to be back in the WAFL top five as a result as well.
 
Swan Districts and East Perth both did battle at Steel Blue Oval with both teams on significant losing runs but with the knowledge that the winner would take a significant step towards taking part in the finals in the WAFL in 2018.
 
Swans had lost four matches in-a-row since beating East Perth in Leederville Oval back in Round 8 and then Perth a week later while the Royals hadn’t tasted victory since prior to the State game break, losing six games in succession after being 4-1 at that stage. Read More [+]

State 16s outclass Victoria Country

WA’s State 16s have secured a dominant 54-point win over Victoria Country in their final 2018 NAB AFL National 16s Championship clash today, July 13, at the GABBA.

WA made their mark in the opening term of the clash with six goals. This strong start set the precedent for the rest of the match with WA running out 13.13 (91)- 5.7 (37) winners.

Nathan O'Driscoll was named WA's best with 23 disposals and five tackles. Taj Schofield, Jaxon Bellchambers, Connor Avery and Owen Dann were also among WA's best.

David Yaccob from Peel Thunder, pictured, was named the WA MVP for the Championship series.

Owen Dann kicked four goals for WA, while Connor Avery, Ayden Cartwight and Joel Western added two each.

Round 15 Colts Wrap

THERE were just the three matches in Round 15 on Saturday with East Perth closing in on a finals position, Subiaco returning to top of the table and Peel Thunder moving a game clear in second spot from those games.

With Claremont, East Fremantle and West Perth having byes in Round 15 of the 2018 WAFL Colts season, it set the stage for three important matches on Saturday that saw some movement throughout the ladder as a result.

The first match to get the round underway was on Saturday morning at Steel Blue Oval and it was a tight affair, with East Perth ending up beating Swan Districts 7.11 (53) to 7.6 (48) with the Royals now only percentage outside of fifth position.

East Perth Football Club has given the Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC) a Notice of Termination after mutually agreeing with the West Coast Eagles to conclude our current partnership agreement.

After careful consideration, the Board have decided that it is in East Perth’s best interest to leave our arrangement with The West Coast Eagles to ensure fairness with regards to WAFC Zoning and Funding Reviews that are imminent.

Four ripper WA Football League clashes are set to unfold this Saturday and there will be heaps of activities and competitions all members of the family can get involved in.

East Fremantle and Claremont take to Geraldton as part of the WA Football Commission’s ‘Festival of Football’ event being held in the region this week. Live score updates and statistics can be viewed via the WAFL app and on both the WAFL clubs Facebook and Twitter accounts.
